Integrating spheres are used to spatially integrate the total radiant flux from a luminaire. From the total radiant flux, key photometric and radiometric quantities such as spectral power distribution, total luminous flux, chromaticity coordinates, correlated color temperature, color rendering index, and so on can be measured with a spectroradiometer. Metrue spectroradiometers use scientific grade, holographic, concave gratings to ensure accurate results.

 

Integrating spheres must be large enough to guarantee measurements of LED modules, arrays engines, lamps and luminaires are correct. The size of a sphere necessary for a measurement depends on the properties of the luminaire being measured. For 4π geometry, the total surface area of the luminaire should represent less than 2% of the interior sphere surface area. In a 2π geometry, the diameter of the opening should not exceed one third of the diameter of the sphere. In addition, the sphere should be large enough to prevent significant temperature increases during testing. Careful design by Metrue ensures repeatable and accurate results.

SIM-2 Spectral Irradiance Meter

 Metrue has developed a portable spectrometer, SIM-2, for use in everyday field workand quality control done by quality engineers and other professionals. As an easy-to-use, handheld device, it offers powerful functions and good reliability. You can acquire accurate data quickly with a single touch. Then those measurements can be easily uploaded to a PC via USB or Wi-Fi.

 

Metrue also has the SIM-2 Plus. The SIM-2 plus is an upgraded version of the SIM-2. Equipped with WiFi and Bluetooth, the SIM-2 plus facilitates remote measurement and data transmission which is very useful for locations hard or hazardous to reach. Most importantly, the SIM-2 Plus enhances the sensitivity and range of illuminance measurements by 2 magnitudes, i.e., 0.1lx to 200klx.
